SHLOYME LIKHTENBERG (SZLOJME LICHTENBERG)

SHLOYME LIKHTENBERG (SZLOJME LICHTENBERG) (b. 1893)

            He was born in Lodz, Poland.  He was active in the community initially among the Aleksanderer Hassidim, later with Mizrachi.  He was also involved with the Hebrew school Tachkemoni.  He began writing for the special publication of the Aleksanderer Hassidim, Val-blat (Lodz) in 1912, and later he published articles in: Lodzer tageblat (Lodz daily newspaper) and Mizrakhi shtime (Voice of Mizrachi) in Lodz; and Der mizrakhi-veg (The Mizrachi way) and Hamizraḥi (The Mizrachi) in Warsaw; among other serials.  In book form, he published: Khesed leumim, der shos in davos un zayn opklang in zheneve (Charity among the peoples, the shot fired in Davos and its echo in Geneva) (Lodz, 1937), 32 pp., including his articles in connection with the assassination carried out by David Frankfurter; and Mayn vort (My word) (Lodz, 1939), 115 pp.  It is thought that he died in the Lodz ghetto in 1940.
