GERSHON LIKHTENSHTEYN

GERSHON LIKHTENSHTEYN (1897-August 1944)
            He was born in Kelts (Kielce), Poland.  In his youth he moved to Lodz, where he was active with Tseire-Tsiyon (Young Zionists).  He was a member of the central committee of the Hitaḥdut (Unity) party in Poland.  He published articles in: Lodzer tageblat (Lodz daily newspaper) and Folksblat (People’s newspaper) in Lodz (1919-1934); Bafrayung (Liberation) in Warsaw (1922-1925); Folk un land (People and land) in Warsaw (1924, 1929); and was a member of the editorial board of Unzer tribune (Our tribune) in Lodz-Warsaw (1935).  He also contributed to Dos vort (The word) in Warsaw and other publications of the Hitaḥdut party in Poland.  He was confined in the Lodz ghetto, from whence in the summer of 1944 he was sent to Auschwitz and murdered.
