SHLOYME LYAMPERT

SHLOYME LYAMPERT (b. September 14, 1888)

            He was born in Koritsin (Korczyn?), near Bialystok, Russian Poland.  He studied in religious elementary school, yeshiva, and privately for secular subjects.  In 1910 he debuted in print with a story in Lebn un visnshaft (Life and science).  In 1919 he became a regular contributor to Dos naye leben (The new life) and Unzer lebn (Our life)—both in Bialystok—in which he published stories and novels, which were republished in Idishe tsaytung (Jewish newspaper) in Buenos Aires and in Tsyat (Times) in London.  He reworked his novels into dramatic form.  In 1921 there was performed in Bialystok his Familyen-laydn (Family suffering), a drama in three acts with an epilogue (55 pp.), and Di nekome (The revenge), a drama in three acts (47 pp.), performed in Bialystok by amateurs.  In 1929 he contributed to the jubilee number of Dos naye leben and in 1931 to Byalistoker almanakh (Bialystok almanac).  He was a member of the Bialystok Jewish literary circle.
