SHLOYME
LIDER (b. 1869)
He hailed from Vilna. He was a scribe for Torah scrolls, tefillin,
and mezuzot. In 1904 he came to the
United States and lived for a time in New York and, during the years of WWI, in
Boston. He published essays on the
weekly Torah portion and translated from the Midrash and the sayings of
Hassidim for: Yidishes tageblat
(Jewish daily newspaper) and Dos idishe
likht (The Jewish light)—in New York (1923-1924); and Der idisher fihrer (The Jewish leader) in Boston (1923-1924); among
others. In book form: Koyheles shloyme (Ecclesiastes Shloyme),
“stories, jokes, and pious words from great men” (Boston, 1926), 34 pp.
