FISHL LIBERTE

FISHL LIBERTE (b. 1892)
            He came from Minsk, Byelorussia.  He later lived in Vilna and Homel (Gomel).  When the Red Army seized Vilna in December 1918, he assumed a number of important positions in Jewish life, later returning to Homel.  He began writing for Der shtern (The star) in Minsk (1918), of which he later (1920-1921) served as chief editor; similarly when the newspaper was published in Vilna (April 4-18, 1919).  He was also editor of Der komunist (The Communist) in Vilna (December 1918-April 1919).  He contributed to the anthology Di naye velt (The new world) (Vilna 1-3 (1919) and Horepashnik (Toiler) in Homel (1919-1920), initially published as a weekly and later three times each weekly.  He also wrote under the pen names: Y. B. Elenzon, S-V, and the like.  Further information about him remains unknown.
