TSVI-HIRSH KOHN

TSVI-HIRSH KOHN (b. February 12, 1900)

            He was born in Brezeve (Brzhezovo), Byelorussia.  He studied in religious elementary school and in yeshivas, before later studying the cantorial art.  In 1921 he moved to the United States.  For a time he lived in Bayonne, New Jersey.  He was a cofounder of the Bayonne Yehoash writers’ group, which in 1930 brought out the collection Ineynem (Altogether) (Bayonne, 130 pp.).  He published in it a series of poems.  He also placed work in the periodicals: Nuarker morgenshtern (Newark morning star), Dzhoyrzi idishe shtime (Jewish voice of Jersey), and Di idishe shtime (The Jewish voice) in New York, in which he published poems, stories, and feature pieces—using such pen names as: Hershkohn, Hershele Kohn, Ts. Hersh, and Hirshul Mashes.  He was last living in Florida.
