KASRIEL-FISHL TKHURSH

KASRIEL-FISHL TKHURSH (October 8, 1896-September 20, 1979)

            He was born in Nieszawa, Suwalk district, Russian Poland, into a rabbinic family.  As a child he moved with his parents to Sluptse (Słupca).  He studied in religious primary school, yeshivas, and with the rabbi of Vlotslavek (Włocławek), from whom he received ordination into the rabbinate.  For several years he ran the Mizrachi school in Włocławek, and he chaired the Mizrachi party in Poland.  From 1933 he was living in Israel.  He was a member of Vaad Hapoel (Zionist General Council) and of the education committee of “Hapoel hamizraḥi” (Mizrachi workers [religious labor party]).  He published essays in Nerotenu (Our lamps) in Włocławek in 1921 (which he also edited); later he contributed to: Vlotslaveker bleter (Włocławek pages) and Vlotslaveker lebn (Włocławek life) in Włocławek; and Hamizraḥi (The Mizrachi), Der mizrakhi-veg (The Mizrachi way), Moment (Moment), Hatsfira (The siren), Hamenora (The menorah), Hakedem (Antiquity), Idishe shtime (jewish voice), and Dos idishe lebn (Jewish life) in Warsaw; Shaar yishuv (Gate of settlement) and Lodzer tageblat (Lodz daily newspaper) in Lodz; Hamitspe (The watchtower) in Cracow; Bitsaron (Fortress) and Talpiyot (Fortresses) in New York; Unzer veg (Our way) in Paris; and Hatsofe (The spectator), Shaarim (Gates), Sinai (Sinai), Haposek (The decider), Kol hatora (Voice of the Torah), and Hatora vehamedina (The Torah and the state), among others, in Israel.  He died in Tel Aviv.
